The Identify Stakeholder process has a single output which is the creation of a stakeholder register. The stakeholder register is the basis for planning, managing and controlling project stakeholders which will be an ongoing project responsibility. However, PMBOK® does not give an example of a stakeholder register, only the general categories to include. Due to the sensitive nature of the contents, the stakeholder register is probably an item that should be kept confidential within the project team although there is a possibility that making it visible might help the project instead of creating resentment from resistant stakeholders.
Below is one example of a stakeholder register.
Based on the classification, the project manager creates an action plan to address any concerns. Also, the stakeholder register becomes an input to the creation of the communications management plan.
The stakeholder register is an important document to maintain and requires ongoing review as the project progresses.
